TALES FROM THE HOSPITAL [Aug. 15th, 2010|09:05 pm]
Karlos the Jackal

So stomach pain is not at all unusual for me, although the probiotics I take seem to help a lot. My stomach pain usually takes the from of relatively short-lived cramping, and was worst during my teen years.

My stomach pain on Monday night did not ring any particular alarm bells until it became clear that it was steadily in rising in intensity. I went to the ER at around 5 or 6 that morning, and went into surgery at 2 pm the next day, at which point my appendix literally exploded, covering the doctors and walls in the the operating room with bright yellow slime.

(I assume appendices are bright yellow. I might be thinking of Cliffs Notes.)

Yes, the operating room looked like a Nickelodeon awards show.

Holy shit! I'm so glad you went to the ER before it actually burst at home or something! Damn.

When my mom's appendix had to be taken out, she was about to embark on a week-long river rafting expedition. Seriously, she had been having incredibly bad abdominal pain all morning of the day before the group was going to leave, so she went to a random tiny little hospital somewhere in south central Washington. If she had gone on the trip, she would have been basically out in the middle of nowhere for a week with no easy/quick way in or out. But she went to the hospital and they took it out that night. So close!
